What would you do …

May 15th, 2007 Leave a comment

… if you would be all-powerful? I’m talking of limitless power like the one the Beyonder wields. Real omnipotence. Currently, I’m re-reading Secret Wars II and I couldn’t help but to think of what I’d do with that kinda power. And guess what! I couldn’t think of anything at all. Well, sure, there are some things I’d do but, ultimately, there’s nothing more to do. If you can do literally everything in the blink of an eye, what do you get out of life? You’ll never experience fulfillment again because you don’t have to strain to accomplish whatever task you set yourself to (yeah, in this context limiting your powers is cheating).

Seriously, could anyone be happy wielding such imaginable powers? Are we humans even able to understand the magnitude of omnipotence? Which leads us inevitably back to the initial question: what would you do if you would wield omnipotent powers? End wars? Stop death? Force others to embrace love and life? Honestly, I truly don’t know what I would do. Every action has consequences and I would really feel like a child in a sandbox. You know, messing around with stuff and unintentionally destroying things in the process …

I know this sounds uber cliche, but, with great power comes great responsibility. I don’t know if I would ever want that weight on my shoulders. X ray vision would be really cool tho…And flying….and teleportation…..

You’re re-reading Secret Wars II? Ugh. The Beyonder looked like David Hasselhoff.

Hal Jordan as Parallax would be a more recent all-powerful person that tried to reshape reality.

I’d be all up for it, but you can’t make changes that matter without making hard decisions. Are you watching Heroes across the pond? That show deals with that kind of stuff, plus for a comics geek, its great!

ballerina: The famous line from Peter Parker’s uncle Ben? However, your train of thought is quite understandable.

spock: True, the similarity really is interesting (Plus, I don’t get where so may people got the idea that he looked like Michael Jackson.).

As far as reality is concerned, the biggest supervillain I know of is Proteus a.k.a. Mutant X.

Nope, not at the moment. Unfortunately, my time’s limited. But I’ll do some catching up later on by spending evening after evening with some DVDs ;)

You can catch Heroes on nbc.com. They have full episodes. One of my friends is an attendant in a hospital, and this is the only way he gets to catch them all.

Franklin Richards (Sue and Reed’s son) is also someone who can manipulate reality. Like when he created the Heroes Reborn universe after Onslaught.

I am overdosing on the nerd here!

Ah, I’ll check that out later. As long as the weather is fine, I’m on the road.

I sure know the Fantastic 4 and, thus, Franklin Richards. Unfortunately, I have yet to read the Onslaught Reborn miniseries to get the full picture.

Never mind. We all have a geeky side buried deep within us ;)

That is a tough question. I think I would just sit around and drink beer all day.

jlee: That really is the best suggestion I’ve heard. I’d gladly join you in conjuring up beer all day.
