In the Name of the King
Against better knowledge I watched that movie last week. It seems like I was right when I said earlier that I don’t trust people saying Boll actually did something right. I have to admit though that the movie was better than I expected. It has a cheap look and feel and it was quite reminiscent of the Eragon movie which too sucked big time. But then, I didn’t expect anything else. It’s just the same as with all Boll movies. The music often was plain distracting and I wished for a remote with a working mute button.
In the Name of the King is loosely based on Dungeon Siege; unfortunately, the film had little to do with the game. The special effects were pretty cheesy although I liked the way wizards can travel if need be. The depicted land seemed bleak and quite depressing. The enemy – the krugs – looked very bad; I could easily discern the costumes. As far as the acting is concerned, I won’t go into details. It was horrible. To be honest, I felt like I was watching a workprint. That’s a shame. Still, more editing efforts might have turned Boll’s latest flick into something watchable. If only …
