Gambit Joins Wolverine

February 20th, 2008 No comments

Ever since I heard that there will be a Wolverine spin-off I was convinced that this will be the real thing. Especially since they got Hugh Jackman to star as Logan once again. Also in for the fun are Sabretooth, Colonel William Stryker and Silver Fox. Now Variety reports that Ryan Reynolds has joined the cast and is set to play Deadpool, a high-tech mercenary. Deadpool apparently shows signs of insanity and is known for his black humor. Personally, I think Reynolds is able to handle both parts well enough. Still, they did better!

They finally brought Gambit to life! According to the report Taylor Kitsch will star as the enigmatic thief. Apparently, Fox and Marvel have tried to add Gambit to the X-Men franchise for a long time but they could never find a way to give him enough screen time. Last but not least, the producers have added Kestrel (John Wraith) to the cast, who will be played by
Black Eyed Peas frontman will.i.am. X-Men Origins: Wolverine is currently set to be released on May 1st, 2009.

New Street Fighter Movie in the Works

    February 19th, 2008 No comments

I remember the first film adaption of the very popular video game Street Fighter, starring Jean-Claude Van Damme, Raul Julia and Kylie Minogue. As a matter of fact, I still have a copy of the movie on VHS but I haven’t watched it in years. Back then when I was a youth it was a great movie. Nowadays I couldn’t watch it without prejudice. Anyway, according to Variety there’s a new movie in the works and I’m not quite sure what to think of it.

Kristin Kreuk, who plays Lana Lang in the CW’s “Smallville”, will star as martial artist Chun-Li. Michael Clarke Duncan will play Balrog, Chris Klein will impersonate Nash and Rick Yune will star as the mysterious Gen. Also on are Moon Bloodgood, Taboo from the Black Eyed Peas, Edmund Chen and Cheng Pei Pei. Currently, it is unclear as to who will step into the role of the big baddie Bison. To me the cast doesn’t seem particularly overwhelming. At least there’s fight choreographer Dion Lam who is handling the extreme fight sequences. He was also responsible for the fight scenes in The Matrix.

As far as the plot is concerned, not much is known at the time. According to Variety it will focus on the Chun-Li character. Well, I wonder how long they’re going to keep it under wraps. I don’t even know if I want to watch this movie. Seems like there’s nothing to do but wait for the first trailer.

        No 24 in 2008

        February 18th, 2008 No comments

Due to strike complications Fox has been forced to delay the seventh season of the popular show to an unspecified date. Last week, Fox dropped the bombshell: There will be no season of 24 in 2008! Up to now, the crew has already shot eight episodes and if Fox wanted to continue production this year, there would’ve been a lengthy break between the airing of the already shot episodes and the new ones. In order to ensure that the seventh season was aired uninterrupted, Fox opted to delay the show until January 2009, one year after its originally planned run date. TV.com has the news.

Here’s the low-down on what has been confirmed for the seventh season up to now:

          • With CTU dismantled, the show’s setting moves to Washington, D.C..
          • Jack Bauer faces trial for his actions in the pursuit of justice.
          • Tony Almeida returns!
          • Chloe O’Brian and Bill Buchanan too are back.
          • There will be a female president.

I will eagerly await the next season of 24. Hopefully, they will use the time granted by the powers that be to be more creative than ever before. They absolutely need to produce a show that really kicks some ass. After the disappointing season 2 of Heroes I call it a good decision to wait and product some quality rather than some hastily thrown-together episodes.

The Next Boll Desaster Is Coming Up

          February 15th, 2008 No comments

This guy is a pain in the ass but I already drove that point home a time ago. Fortunately, his latest movie – In the Name of the King – didn’t do too well at the box office where it only grossed roughly $10 million worldwide. According to Hollywood Reporter, Boll “will focus on small films” in the future. Unfortunately, before he will do so there will be another film adaptation of a famous game.

This time around the movie is based on the very popular FarCry created by the German company Crytek. FarCry is starring Til Schweiger, Emmanuelle Vaugier, Craig Fairbrass, Ralf Moeller and, sadly, Don S. Davis whom I liked as “Hammond of Texas” in Stargate SG-1. There’s no definitive release date yet except that it will come in 2008.

Anyway, take a look for yourself. Be sure to watch out for absolutely awesome catchphrases like “I haven’t said anything about being simple.” or “You are one persistent son of a bitch.” or – best of all – “Is that your gun?”. I may not know much but I know one thing: This movie will suck again. Then, this doesn’t come as a surprise, does it?

Jet Li And Jackie Chan Team Up

            February 15th, 2008 No comments

The Forbidden Kingdom PosterFinally, I get to see those two in one movie. They got together to star in the upcoming movie The Forbidden Kingdom – formerly known as The J & J project – which is about an American teenager traveling back through time to ancient China. Obviously, he doesn’t do so because he planned it but rather because he got his hands on a legendary weapon that once belonged to the Monkey King. The official site doesn’t have anything on it at all but the latest trailer which is also available in HD over at Apple. According to IMDB the movie will be opening in the US on April 18th, 2008.

This is the first collaboration between martial arts veterans Jackie Chan and Jet Li. Chan will act as a drunken kung fu master while Li slips into the role of a silent monk who doesn’t talk much. This was quite unexpected. I always hoped to watch both of them come together in one movie and now the time has arrived. Truth be told, I hoped for them to star in the upcoming movie adaptation of the very popular video game Tekken. I’m afraid that’s not going to happen if this report can be believed.
