Dexter is Heading to the Video Game World
That’s right. We all know Showtime’s friendly neighborhood serial killer named Dexter and we like watching over his shoulder while he’s “working”. That’s probably due to a darker, voyeuristic side deep inside. Anyway, the show is well received and it even got a few awards, TV Program of the Year among them. No wonder they’re gonna make a video game based on the TV series. The series itself is based on the novel Darkly Dreaming Dexter by Jeff Lindsay.
According to Len Fogge, Executive Vice President, Marketing, Digital Media and Research at Showtime Networks, Dexter has a particularly strong fan base among gamers, so it’s a very logical jump to create a game. Mark Ecko Entertainment will take care of the programming part and it will work closely with Showtime to take Dexter to the interactive space. The Hollywood Reporter writes that the game is being designed for multiple platforms, including the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360.
Unfortunately, the game currently is in pre-production so there’s nothing to discuss yet. Still, I can’t help myself. I have to think of an obscure mix of Hitman and an adventure game. Since Dexter does a lot of planning that’s now shown on TV that’s something the player will have to do in the game. In my opinion that’s a key feature and it’s quite reminiscent of Hitman. Dexter’s day work seems to have a lot in common with CSI so it’s probably more than an educated guess that this part of the game will have an adventure touch. Ah, enough speculation. I’ll try to keep on top of that game.
