I don’t know what exactly prompted me to look up the cur­rent sta­tus of one of my favorite TV shows but I did. Dead Like Me has been can­celed after the sec­ond sea­son and there haven’t been any plans of a renewal for a long time. Then, on April 17th, 2008, MGM announced that there will be a movie that will be released directly to DVD. So, today I did a search on that topic and I came up with quite a few inter­est­ing bits of information.

First of all, almost all of the orig­i­nal cast made it back. Only two actors, namely Mandy Patinkin and Laura Har­ris, weren’t able to. Any­way, the new head reaper will be Lost’s Desmond aka Henry Ian Cusick. As for the role of Daisy Adair, Sarah Wyn­ter will step into the foot­steps of Laura Har­ris. I don’t like that much but what can I do? In con­trast, there are good news too: If the film works well, the series may well be back on the small screen!

After the depar­ture of Rube Sofer, a new head reaper named Cameron Kane takes over. He’s a slick busi­ness­man who couldn’t care less about help­ing the newly dead. Chaos ensues and brings out the worst in Daisy and Mason who begin drink­ing anew. George and Reg­gie re-connect for the first time when George reaps a new friend of Reggie’s.

By the way, Ellen Muth will be nar­rat­ing in the movie as she was in the series. The Dead Like Me movie is set to hit the DVD shelves some­time dur­ing Sum­mer 2008. No mat­ter what hap­pens, I will pick up a copy of the DVD. If you’re really nosy, there’s a trailer avail­able over at YouTube. The qual­ity isn’t that great but it does give a good glimpse at what’s in store for the best reapers in town. Watch at your own risk
