Franklyn is an upcoming British fantasy film following a dark and dystopian theme. The movie is set between the parallel worlds of contemporary London and the futuristic faith dominated metropolis of Meanwhile City. Franklyn offers a glimpse into the inner workings of fate and follows the tales of four characters:

  • Jonathan Preest (Ryan Phillippe) is a masked atheist detective searching for his nemesis, Meanwhile City’s dangerous leader.
  • Emilia (Eva Green) is a beautiful young art student whose conducting ever more dangerous art projects.
  • Milo (Sam Riley) is a heartbroken thirty-something yearning for the purity of first love.
  • Peter Esser (Bernard Hill) is a broken man, searching desperately for his missing son amongst London’s homeless.

Even though the trailer isn’t a work of art, the film has caught my interest. Franklyn premiered at the 52nd London Film Festival on 16 October 2008. The film will hit theaters in the UK on 20 February 2009. A release date for the United States has yet to be set. Of course, you can also visit the official site to stay up to date.

Almost a year ago I wrote about the plot and it seems that they haven’t changed much. Now there’s a trailer online and you can look for yourself. From what I can surmise, this movie is even sicker than the first. Crank 2: High Voltage has some nice scenes as evidenced by the trailer. Have fun!

X-Men Origins: Wolverine Teaser Poster

Finally, the X-Men Origins: Wolverine trailer has arrived in glorious quicktime. Of course, this trailer has been all over the net for ages in a crappy quality. Now you can enjoy it in high definition. The film is set to be released on May 1, 2009, and I’m already looking forward to seeing it.

This movie tells the story of Wolverine’s past and the ominous Weapon X program which should get interesting. Lots of other mutants will make an appearance, especially Victor Creed (Sabretooth). Others are Deadpool, Beak, Gambit, Agent Zero, Silver Fox, Cyclops, Kestrel, and a few others, I guess. To be honest, I didn’t like the trailer too well but they could’ve done much worse.

During the recent work on my blog I thought that I could come up with some kind of library section. Unfortunately, that was easier said than done. I tried to come up with a solution to display all the books I own – well, at least the English ones – but I couldn’t figure out how to make it user friendly and well arranged. So, I was browsing the internet looking for inspiration when I stumbled over an online bookshelf. Where there’s one, there are usually more. A quick search ended with a few possible solutions.

The first online bookshelf I found is called LibraryThing. I immediately signed up and tried a few things. Unfortunately, I discovered during the registration process that you can only add up to 200 books for free. If you want more books, you have to pay $10  a year or $25 once. I gladly pay for services rendered but I don’t like to pay for something that doesn’t suit my needs. I have to say, though, that LibraryThing is easy to use, offers lots of languages and scanner support. Yeah, well … I decided to do a little more research.

GuruLib is the next site I discovered. After signing up I found that this one offer a quite extensive database. It’s very user friendly too but it looks quite dull. Interestingly enough, GuruLib isn’s specifically for books. One can also use it to manage movies, music, games and software. It’s nice enough and it’s free but it looks way too spartan to me. So, off I was to check out the next one.

New year, new WordPress and new episodes of my favorite TV shows. What else could I possibly need? Here’s the lowdown on what to expect over the next few weeks:

First up, Scrubs returns on January 6 for it’s eight season. The premiere is titled “My Jerks” and features Courteney Cox as Dr. Maddox, who arrives at Sacred Heart to replace Dr. Kelso. Elliot has issues with here ego – again – and J. D. struggles to keep his new interns in the line.

Had your fill of Jack Bauer after 24: Redemption? Guess not. Fox will bring the series back with a massive four-hour, two-part season premiere on January 11. On January 12, 24 will continue with the second part of the season premiere and on January 19 24 will move to 9 p.m. Sweet! Certainly, Jack Bauer will once again rescue everyone but the bad guys. Simply love to see this show.
