Spider-Man Spin-off Venom on Course?

September 30th, 2009 No comments

    Venom by kg21 (deviantART)

SCI FI Wire talked to Paul Wernick who co-wrote the script for the Spider-Man spin-off Venom with Rhett Reese and it looks like Sony is going forward with the project. According to Wernick “the project is still moving forward and the writing team has turned the script in to the suits at Sony”. Apparently, the studio has two drafts of Venom to consider and is trying to figure out its next step. It seems unlikely that Venom will happen before Spider-Man 4, which the latest rumors have shooting  in early 2010. Wernick was tight-lipped when asked about a possible relationship between the two movies.

I’d love to see a Venom movie, that’s for sure! And I know a bunch of people who’d sell their mothers to do so too. It will be interesting to see whether the film will ignore what’s happened in Spider-Man 3 or starts fresh if they decide to go through with the project. I still hate the fact that Venom didn’t get enough screen-time in the third installment of the Spidey franchise.

Fine-tuning my WordPress Blog Part I

    September 28th, 2009 No comments

Over the last few days I spent a little time on WordPress, interesting plug-ins, and some settings. First of all, I improved your ability to comment on my ramblings. Now you have the power to conveniently format your text. In addition, there’s a new option to keep you up to speed, if you decide to produce some text. This option is disabled by default but you can turn it on by activating the checkbox titled “Notify me of followup comments via e-mail”, which is located right under the text editor.

Next, I finally customized my 404 error page. The default page may be nice but I didn’t like it all that much. This isn’t a final version but it’s definitely better than its predecessor. In addition, I fixed a few things which were broken in IE. Naturally, this site is optimized for Firefox but the layout should now be the same on IE as well. If the site looks really messed up you can always fall back on Firefox.

Of course, I installed a few additional plug-ins and optimized a few lines of code, even though PHP isn’t a scripting language I’m very familiar with. Let’s just say that I removed a few unnecessary PHP/MySQL calls by hardcoding a few things as outlined in this excellent article over at Digging into WordPress. Anyway, the site loads a tad faster and surely is a bit more convenient to use than it was before. Finally, thanks to Register Plus you can register more easily now. Read more…

How to Exclude an Image from a WordPress Gallery?

      September 23rd, 2009 10 comments

How to exclude an image from your gallery? That’s the question I’ve been asking myself a few days ago. Obviously, WordPress doesn’t provide a solution for this action out of the box so I had to get some help. As usual, Google wasn’t shy and came up with a lot of suggestions. First, I tried to hack my functions.php according to this awesome post from the development team at Code Greene. Yes, it worked out quite well but I didn’t like all the hassle … and I kinda fried my functions.php because the provided code was full of HTML entities (you know, & instead of & and the like).

So, I had to look further and I stumbled over a nice little plug-in called Cleaner Gallery. This plug-in mainly takes care of the invalid XHTML that WordPress produces when using the gallery shortcode. Additionally, it provides the user with a few more features not the least of it the ability to exclude or include any images from your gallery. Just install it, take a look at the provided readme.html and there you go. Nice work!

        Pandorum – Another Event Horizon?

        September 23rd, 2009 No comments

pandorum_poster_1Ever since I saw the trashy The Dark Side of the Moon back in the Nineties I was into sci-fi flicks. There are lots of other movies but this one I couldn’t forget and I still know a few scenes. Of course, I absolutely loved Event Horizon and Sunshine. And now there’s another movie promising a nice mix consisting of survival horror and sci-fi elements: Pandorum.

I haven’t enjoyed any sci-fi movies lately. I hope this one’s good and worth the money. In any case, I rely on Cameron’s Avatar to once again blow me away like he did with Terminator II but I’m digressing. Read more…

Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day Official Trailer

          September 3rd, 2009 2 comments

Yeah, right! Somebody posted the official trailer of the Boondock Saints sequel Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day over at YouTube.  Honestly, I don’t know what to expect from this sequel to one of my favorite movies but I’d love to see more right now. We got our brothers and their father back and a hot chick – Julie Benz (who plays Rita Bennet in my favorite TV show Dexter) – joined the fray! According to IMDB the movie is currently slated for a November 1 release. And here’s the trailer:
