The ever observant reader surely has noticed a few changes in this blog’s appearance. Indeed, I’ve been busy changing a few things after upgrading to WordPress 2.3.3 (thanks, David). First, I’ve reduced the number of categories and I have added tags to every post. This will prove very useful once the tag cloud goes online. Second, I’ve changed the design in both big and small ways. Obviously, the sidebar will now stick to the right side without you being able to change it with the press of a button. Then there are a few small changes here and there which I think aren’t worth the effort of posting a detailed description. Last but not least, this blog now always redirects to http://www.brainassassin.com/, for instance, if you type brainassassin.com in your URL bar. This is to stop canonicalization.
That’s it for now. Throughout the days and quite possibly weeks ahead I’m going to change a few more things and do some fine-tuning. Coming up next will be a few minor modifications of my style sheet. I don’t really know what else is going to change so I can’t say. In any event, I’m trying to make this blog better than ever. If you have some suggestions don’t hesitate and leave a comment.
Yes, I do. First, I promised to update my blog more regularly, almost on a daily basis, and then I fail to deliver. It’s not my fault, really. My new router – a Linksys WRT350N – almost made me go berserk. It just stopped working after a few days of reliable operation. Nothing I did made my wireless network working again. After a hefty 30 minutes call with a guy from the support line it still didn’t work. They sent me a new firmware (v2.00.13(04)) and … still nothing. Hell, I downloaded and installed the newest driver for the NIC and … still nothing. I tried to install only the driver … nothing. More out of fancy than reasoning I installed the newest version of the Linksys Monitoring Tool and … nothing. Of course, somehow it didn’t install the necessary service. After fixing that … it worked! Even faster than before. Let’s hope it stays that way.
As far as my work is concerned: Last week we had to move our offices from one wing to the other, with only two days warning. The move worked better than I anticipated but there’s still some work to do. And then, there’s this blog I should work on (for instance, as Evil Spock suggested, there’s still no link section) before starting to blog for real. Well, I omitted my private life in which I was trying to buy and set up a HDD-Recorder for my girlfriend which turned out to be a rather nasty task. They sold us a device that doesn’t support EPG although they told us so. Tomorrow we will hopefully finish this unpleasant business so that I can sleep well again.
What’s the meaning of this? Well, if everything goes according to the plan, this site should see some improvements next week and I will be able to keep my promise. Sadly, over the last three weeks nothing seemed to respect the fact that I laid out a plan …
Yeehaa! If you’re reading this you made it to my new blog. I tried to import the older posts from Blogger but one can only do so much in a given amount of time. There’s work to be done over the next few days so don’t expect everything to work perfectly yet. The design isn’t quite final, I’d say, and I’m going to get a new domain as soon as I’ve made up my mind about it. Heck, even I have to impose an order on the issues at hand fighting for my attention.
Apart from a new, more powerful blogging system, a more appealing design, and a soon-to-come own domain, what do I have in store for you? Truth is, I don’t know. More frequent updates, I seriously hope. More diverse topics (I still won’t get into politics, though). More pictures? Not likely. More experimenting with styles, designs and related stuff? Possible. That’s not too bleak a future, I’d say. Anyway, stay tuned and drop by now and then to look at the progress I’ve made.
Coincidentally, I stumbled over an interesting blog using the infamous ‘Next Blog’ button. It’s worth noting that there are some assholes at work putting redirects to this site on the automatically generated blogs. Of course, the already entered keyword is Viagra. Hell, is there nothing the people at blogger.com can do? At least make it impossible to create blogs with the use of programs.
Anyway, I came along this blog where a nice enough looking woman asserts something like “If you wanna be a successful blogger, you’d better be sexy. If you can’t post a sexy picture of yourself you should fall back on a certain level of irony or invent new words.”. Well, hm. Now I’m curious. What is the use of blogging? Is there a truth hidden away somewhere? Didn’t I realize it’s all about bitchin’ around and attracting scores of readers?
I couldn’t care less. I’m exerting my right of freedom of expression and I’m doing it to get rid of all these thoughts in my head. It’s like a vent, if you wanna have it so. I’m interested in other people’s opinions, that’s true. The more the better but that doesn’t mean that I’ve to change my ways. That would defeat the very purpose of this blog and I’d become a pet of others.
Yesterday, I updated my blog and went beta. Today, I changed some details to fit into the greater picture. I’m quite satisfied with its new look but there are still some parts I’m not yet done with. However, I don’t wanna bother right now.
Tomorrow I’ll visit my parents who’re living in a small village roughly 310 miles from my location. I haven’t seem ‘em for a while, almost half a year. How could I forget – my uncle’s birthday is to celebrate so I hope it turns out to be a pleasant weekend after all. So long, guys.
