Green Hornet Trailer Hits the Web!

The Green Hornet trailer is sweeping the blogosphere as it has been made available for public consumption. Slated for release in January 2011 the film stars Seth Rogen as the title character and Jay Chou as his manservant Kato. The Green Hornet will also feature Cameron Diaz and Chrisoph Waltz. While I like Rogen he wouldn’t have been my first choice for this movie so I guess this should make it interesting.

Unfortunately, the trailer doesn’t look very remarkable. I had to laugh a bit though, so let’s hope for the best. I’m confident Rogen will get the part of Britt Reid right but I’m not so sure about the other part. Well, we’ll have to wait until the movie is released, but until then, enjoy the trailer:

Looks Like Iron Man 2 Really Rocks!

Harry from Ain’t It Cool News says that Iron Man 2 kicks it up several notches across the board. Looks like they didn’t fuck up the sequel after all! This time around there’s a lot of stuff going on. Tony Stark is addicted to being Iron Man, his power source is slowly poisoning him, Whiplash pops up from nowhere, Justin Hammer is introduced, Pepper Potts gets more responsibility, and there’s your beautiful femme fatale – Black Widow.

All things considered, Iron Man 2 offers lots of plots and sub-plots and some history between Tony Stark and his father. Also, the actions seems to be well dosed – the Monaco scene from the trailers isn’t the best sequence. At least, that’s what Harry says. According to him this film throws a challenge to Thor, Captain America, and The Avengers. Oh, there’s another information I managed to gleam from the comments: Stan Lee’s cameo in this movie is his briefest yet.

Of course, you don’t completely trust one source. So, there’s a review up over at ComingSoon.net that essentially says the same thing. They give it 8 out of 10 points, mostly because of the high expectations some people may have from the first movie. Well, I guess we just have to see Iron Man 2 for ourselves. Considering the unique release pattern of the movie, visit the official movie site for information on when the sequel hits theaters in your country.

Clash of the Titans Trailer Reloaded

A few days ago, the second trailer for the Clash of the Titans remake appeared on the net. For the first trailer -- which isn’t all that different from the latest one -- get to my first post about the remake. The latest trailer is a full minute longer and features a bunch of new scenes. Since the movie should hit theaters today, I’ll try to watch it this weekend. If you liked the music, look for “The Bird and the Worm” by The Used.

Predators Trailer Looks Promising

The trailer for Predators, the latest addition to the franchise that began with Arnold Schwarzenegger, has arrived on the net. In Predators, a bunch of elite warriors are kidnapped from Earth and brought to another planet. There they realize that they are nothing more than prey! In a nutshell, that’s the plot. Well, this is a movie about Predators so we don’t need much of a story line, right? Oh, the world looks just like the jungles in the first film with a few additions.

I still remain cautious about the casting but I freely admit that Adrien Brody doesn’t look as ridiculous in the trailer as he did in my imagination. Looks like Predators just jumped near the top of my must-see list. What do you think? Will the additional ‘s’ in the title make this one a better movie?

New Expendables Movie Poster Turns Up!

A very well done poster, I'd say.

The new American poster for The Expendables is here. This film stars Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Eric Roberts, Steve Austin, Bruce Willis, Mickey Rourke, and a bunch of others, most of them known faces. The Expendables is about a team of mercenaries hired to infiltrate a South American country and overthrow a ruthless dictator. Of course, nothing goes according to plan and things will get more bloody and action-packed than everyone thought.

There are a few test screening reports out in the wild describing this film as insanely violent. Let’s hope The Powers That Be won’t change anything and we are going to see the movie in all its gory glory on August 13th this year. I don’t know about you but that’s definitely a movie I absolutely have to see. There’s no way around it!

A new Iron Man 2 trailer has hit the web yesterday! There’s more War Machine and more Hammer in the trailer. And I absolutely adore the suitcase armor. Why Karate Kid Remake Really Is About Kung Fu

Most of us will already know that a Karate Kid remake – The Karate Kid – is in the works and slated for a June 11 release. Jaden Smith plays the 12-year-old kid Dre Parker whose mother’s latest career move has landed him in China. Of course, he’s not even remotely as popular there as he was in good old Detroit. Some kid beats him up but he is rescued by maintenance man Mr. Han (Jackie Chan) who will teach Dre the kung fu. Wait, did you read that correctly? Kung fu? Why the hell is this remake about kung fu and not karate even though the title says otherwise?

Well, Dre of course knows a little karate which is way too little to stand up against the class bully. The latest international trailer also shows that Dre is called “the karate kid” by the bully. Apparently, that’s it. Dre will no doubt master kung fu and will defeat his enemy in the tournament, obviously. I don’t especially like the plot but I think I’m going to watch it anyway.

James Cameron’s AVATAR is Awesome

I saw AVATAR on Saturday and I’m still impressed. James Cameron once again employs state-of-the-art technology to create something we’ve never seen before. Of course, with the largest budget a writer-director has ever had at his disposal, one would expect lots of things to be done right. Unfortunately, the movie matches awesome special effects with a lousy script. To be honest, that’s something Hollywood has been doing for a long time now.

AVATAR is visually stunning and very pleasing to watch. The story takes place on a distant planet called Pandora which looks like a jungle-covered paradise. It’s forests are filled with fantastic creatures and intriguing plants. Vibrant colors dominate the jungle, even at night. Pandora’s predominant species is an intelligent life form who call themselves the Na’vi. Due to the low gravity the blue-skinned humanoids grow enormously huge: they’re roughly 11.5 feet tall. The Na’vi’s movements are fluid and their eyes can convey credible emotion. Well done!

While the film is great to look at, the story disappoints. This is even more true because of the stark contrast between the masterfully realized CGI effects and a lousy plot that goes like this: The Na’vi happily live in their Eden until some nasty humans arrive to mine a mineral known as unobtainium. The mining corporation comes protected by space marines and, of course, they need to get the Na’vi moved because under the tree this specific tribe lives in there is the biggest unobtainium resource within the area. At least, humans can’t breathe in the atmosphere without a breathing apparatus.

To explore the fauna and flora unhindered of the planet Dr. Grace Augustine (Sigourney Weaver) has come up with a bizarre plan: She and her team of scientists have grown fully mature Na’vi from test tubes. These “Avatars” contain DNA spliced from their human “drivers” allowing them to psychically link with their Avatars and pilot them to explore the planet. One of the drivers is Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) who is the only one capable of piloting his dead twin-brother’s Avatar. Sully is a Marine paralyzed from the waist down after a combat injury.

Naturally, Jake gets lost during his first expedition and is rescued by a female Na’vi hunter named Neytiri (Zoe Saldana), the local tribe’s chief’s daughter. Her parents want her to instruct Jake in the ways of the Na’vi. Meanwhile, Jake’s military and corporate masters plot to steal their land to start mining the precious mineral. Undoubtedly, the main bad guy is Colonel Miles Quaritch (Steven Lang) the commander-in-chief of the military forces on Pandora.

A lot of the message-free dialogue is bad and can be seen coming a mile away. While the movie seems long you won’t really notice that time flies by. By the way, I’m told that 3-D doesn’t add much to the experience so you don’t need to pay extra. Anyway, Avatar may not be a revolutionary movie but its amazing special effects make it easy to forget about the 162 minutes you’ll spend watching it. Still, it makes you wonder why an alleged budget of US $230,000,000 couldn’t buy a better script to go with an otherwise amazing film.

Even though Avatar didn’t live up to my expectations, I’m gonna buy it on Blu-ray. If there’s ever going to be a Director’s Cut, that is. And I seriously hope that they will improve on the story if they ever create a sequel.

Clash of the Titans Remake Looks Good

Being greatly interested in Greek mythology I find myself looking forward to Clash of the Titans. This is a remake of the 1981 film of the same name, which was a box office hit back then. The fantasy film is loosely based on the Greek myth of Perseus and features an impressive cast. Sam Worthington stars as Perseus, Liam Neeson as Zeus, Ralph Fiennes as Hades, and Gemma Arterton portrays Io. The film is directed by Louis Leterrier – who already did The Incredible Hulk – and the music will be composed by Craig Armstrong.

The teaser trailer looks good! It sure looks like an action movie rather than a fully-fledged adventure. The remake will hit the theaters on March 26th, 2010.
