Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides Trailer Appears

The official trailer for Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides has been released and promises a swashbuckling adventure with everyone’s favorite pirate Jack Sparrow. Sorry, Captain Jack Sparrow, of course. The fourth installment of the popular franchise will continue where it left off with At World’s End: Captain Jack Sparrow is out to find the fabulous Fountain of Youth.

A mysterious woman from Jack’s past (Penélope Cruz) and the infamous pirate Blackbeard (Ian McShane) are also looking for the Fountain of Youth, as well as Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush). Throw mermaids and zombies into the fray and it promises lots of entertaining moments. Also, Keith Richards will reprise his role as Captain Teague, Jack’s father. Oh, and did I mention that Cruz’ character is actually Blackbeard’s daughter?

If you’d rather opt for glorious quicktime, head over to Apple’s trailer site. The film will hit theaters on May 20th, 2011. If you can’t wait until then, you may want to check out the real inspiration behind the movie – On Stranger Tides by Tim Powers. Obviously, they changed a lot but in the script but that’ll be as close as you can possibly get.

Green Lantern Trailer Hits the Web

Alright now, the first trailer for the Green Lantern movie has landed. Ryan Reynolds stars as Hal Jordan, aka Green Lantern, in this film about one of the mightiest superheroes in the DC Universe. The trailer looks definitely more science-fiction-oriented than other superhero movies. Oh, and the trailer starts with a funny line. Everything starts getting more interesting when he meets the alien Abin Sur. When Abin hands over his ring to Jordan, the adventure starts. The visual effects are well done except for Reynolds Green Lantern suit. I seriously hope it’ll look better when the film hits the movie theaters next year. Anyway, there’s no mention of Parallax in the trailer who is listed at IMDB as the supervillain the Green Lantern has to battle to save Earth.

Green Lantern is due to be released on 17 June 2011.

Would You Pay for In-game Cutscenes?

Activision plans to distribute feature-length game cutscenes as game-based movies within the next five years. According to Eurogamer Activision boss Bobby Kotick made this prediction at the Communications & Entertainment Conference in California. Kotick referred to StarCraft II’s hour-long cutscenes, of course.

“If we were to take that hour, or hour and a half, take it out of the game, and we were to go to our audiences – for whom we have their credit card information and a direct relationship – and say to them, ‘Would you like to have the StarCraft movie?’… and say we have this great hour and a half of linear video that we’d like to make available to you at a $30 or $20 price point, you’d have the biggest opening weekend of any film ever,” Kotick said.

So, Activision wants to capitalize on the relationship it already has established with its customers. In other words, they want the customers to pay some $20 or $30 for rendered in-game cinematics they can watch in the game. I mean, what’s this dude smoking? I can watch three films in the movie theater or I can buy two new Blu-ray movies for 30 bucks.

How will Activision deliver the movies? Kotick didn’t elaborate on that but it sounds like it’s going to happen via the Internet. Wait a moment! Didn’t Blizzard Entertainment do something similar some time ago? Yes! There is something on Amazon and other stores that’s called Blizzard Entertainment DVD Collection. It contains cutscenes from Starcraft, Diablo 2, and Warcraft 3. Well, it already worked once but I’m sure Blizzard didn’t try to sell you this collection for $30.

Green Hornet Trailer Hits the Web!

The Green Hornet trailer is sweeping the blogosphere as it has been made available for public consumption. Slated for release in January 2011 the film stars Seth Rogen as the title character and Jay Chou as his manservant Kato. The Green Hornet will also feature Cameron Diaz and Chrisoph Waltz. While I like Rogen he wouldn’t have been my first choice for this movie so I guess this should make it interesting.

Unfortunately, the trailer doesn’t look very remarkable. I had to laugh a bit though, so let’s hope for the best. I’m confident Rogen will get the part of Britt Reid right but I’m not so sure about the other part. Well, we’ll have to wait until the movie is released, but until then, enjoy the trailer:

Looks Like Iron Man 2 Really Rocks!

Iron Man 2 Movie Poster

Harry from Ain’t It Cool News says that Iron Man 2 kicks it up several notches across the board. Looks like they didn’t fuck up the sequel after all! This time around there’s a lot of stuff going on. Tony Stark is addicted to being Iron Man, his power source is slowly poisoning him, Whiplash pops up from nowhere, Justin Hammer is introduced, Pepper Potts gets more responsibility, and there’s your beautiful femme fatale – Black Widow.

All things considered, Iron Man 2 offers lots of plots and sub-plots and some history between Tony Stark and his father. Also, the actions seems to be well dosed – the Monaco scene from the trailers isn’t the best sequence. At least, that’s what Harry says. According to him this film throws a challenge to Thor, Captain America, and The Avengers. Oh, there’s another information I managed to gleam from the comments: Stan Lee’s cameo in this movie is his briefest yet.

Of course, you don’t completely trust one source. So, there’s a review up over at ComingSoon.net that essentially says the same thing. They give it 8 out of 10 points, mostly because of the high expectations some people may have from the first movie. Well, I guess we just have to see Iron Man 2 for ourselves. Considering the unique release pattern of the movie, visit the official movie site for information on when the sequel hits theaters in your country.

Clash of the Titans Trailer Reloaded

A few days ago, the second trailer for the Clash of the Titans remake appeared on the net. For the first trailer – which isn’t all that different from the latest one – get to my first post about the remake. The latest trailer is a full minute longer and features a bunch of new scenes. Since the movie should hit theaters today, I’ll try to watch it this weekend. If you liked the music, look for “The Bird and the Worm” by The Used.

Predators Trailer Looks Promising

The trailer for Predators, the latest addition to the franchise that began with Arnold Schwarzenegger, has arrived on the net. In Predators, a bunch of elite warriors are kidnapped from Earth and brought to another planet. There they realize that they are nothing more than prey! In a nutshell, that’s the plot. Well, this is a movie about Predators so we don’t need much of a story line, right? Oh, the world looks just like the jungles in the first film with a few additions.

I still remain cautious about the casting but I freely admit that Adrien Brody doesn’t look as ridiculous in the trailer as he did in my imagination. Looks like Predators just jumped near the top of my must-see list. What do you think? Will the additional ‘s’ in the title make this one a better movie?

New Expendables Movie Poster Turns Up!

A very well done poster, I'd say.

The new American poster for The Expendables is here. This film stars Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Eric Roberts, Steve Austin, Bruce Willis, Mickey Rourke, and a bunch of others, most of them known faces. The Expendables is about a team of mercenaries hired to infiltrate a South American country and overthrow a ruthless dictator. Of course, nothing goes according to plan and things will get more bloody and action-packed than everyone thought.

There are a few test screening reports out in the wild describing this film as insanely violent. Let’s hope The Powers That Be won’t change anything and we are going to see the movie in all its gory glory on August 13th this year. I don’t know about you but that’s definitely a movie I absolutely have to see. There’s no way around it!
