24 Season 8 May Be the Show’s Final Season

Yesterday Fox released the trailer for 24′s -- probably final -- season 8 which will premiere on January 17th, 2010. This time around, the series will unfold in New York City and see the re-activation of CTU’s New York office. It’s back to the roots for Jack Bauer as the plot line seems more akin to the narrative that started the whole show. The story arc involves Bauer contending with an assassination attempt on president Hassan from a fictional Middle Eastern country.

Season 8 sees Bauer wanting to spend some time with his daughter and granddaughter but once again his country needs his help. President Hassan is threatened to be assassinated at the United Nations and, of course, only Jack Bauer has the skills and guts to help. President Taylor and Chloe Sullivan return to help. It also looks like they brought back Charles Logan who was left nearly dead in season six. Let’s see how this will turn out.

Farscape Complete Series Megaset

On November 17th, A&E Home Entertainment and The Jim Henson Company will release Farscape The Complete Series Megaset. This Megaset contains all 88 episodes plus over 15 hours of bonus features. A full listing of the contents can be found over at TVShowsOnDVD.com. The Gift Set ups the ante by including two bonus discs title The Archives. If you’re still missing The Peacekeeper Wars, don’t worry: A&E has brokered a deal for you. You will be able to buy one of 5,000 limited Collector’s Edition gift sets exclusively available at Best Buy.

I have only recently acquired The Ultimate Complete Collection but it’s still in the process of being shipped to me. It cost me quite a few bucks and doesn’t contain bonus material, as far as I know. I prefer this cover over the one on the new Megaset, though. And I still hope for a Blu-ray release which will probably not happen soon, if ever. Well, let’s see.

So, what about the promised webisodes they didn’t made because of the bad economy? There’s not much information to be found on the issue. Looks like they’re in the process of raising money to make that happen, according to Nix over at SciFiCool.com, who attended this year’s Comic Con. They’re very keen on doing something with the FarScape Universe and it seems like money is the only issue. Ah, it’s a shame.

A Bunch of TV Series Will Be Back Shortly!

New year, new WordPress and new episodes of my favorite TV shows. What else could I possibly need? Here’s the lowdown on what to expect over the next few weeks:

First up, Scrubs returns on January 6 for it’s eight season. The premiere is titled “My Jerks” and features Courteney Cox as Dr. Maddox, who arrives at Sacred Heart to replace Dr. Kelso. Elliot has issues with here ego – again – and J. D. struggles to keep his new interns in the line.

Had your fill of Jack Bauer after 24: Redemption? Guess not. Fox will bring the series back with a massive four-hour, two-part season premiere on January 11. On January 12, 24 will continue with the second part of the season premiere and on January 19 24 will move to 9 p.m. Sweet! Certainly, Jack Bauer will once again rescue everyone but the bad guys. Simply love to see this show.

Battlestar Galactica will be back on air on January 16, 2009. Even though I could never bring myself to like the original television series produced in 1978, the reimagined series ranks among my favorite TV shows. Since December 12, 2008, you can watch The Face of the Enemy – a 10 part online series – over at SCIFI.COM. Some of the final 10 episodes will run longer than the traditional episode. The series finale may very well consist of a massive three hour event. After season 4 there will be a two-hour TV movie called “The Plan”.

Lost will return on January 21, 2009. As far as I know there will be a recap special directly in front of the season premiere. They surely need it after the messed up season 4. Let’s hope that there are no more issues and everything will be back to normal. I really loved the show in the beginning … let’s see, how the next season will turn out to be.

Heroes Returns; Origins Canned

The good news first: The popular TV show Heroes will return to NBC on September 15 and according to SciFi.com it will return big. Ben Silverman, co-chairman of NBC Entertainment and Universal Media Studios, said that it will be a three-hour event. They will kick off with a one-hour “clip show” to bring the audience up to date and then they will air “a massive two-hour Heroes film”. Chapter Three will be subtitled “Villains”. If you can’t wait until fall, never fear: NBC is planning to offer up Heroes webisodes in July.

Now let’s move on to the bad news: Heroes: Origins is officially dead. For now. Silverman explained that they were taxing their creative team to do too much around that and so they decided to drop the idea. He went on: “We wanted 35 Heroes [episodes] and 12 Heroes: Origins, each of which was supposed to be a mini-movie and backdoor pilot. We reached far and challenged our people, and we decided it was better to focus on keeping the Heroes mothership as strong as possible.”

Prison Break Season 4 Is Confirmed

I’m late with this piece of information, I know. Still, it’s something that should be known. According to a report at TV.com Fox has officially confirmed the fourth season. Additionally, the network will move production from Dallas to Los Angeles. That surely is great news after the disappointing ending of the third season which in itself was quite short. At the moment no details on the next season’s storyline have been released. If I were to make a guess, it will be about Michael and his revenge and – hopefully – about getting Sucre out of prison. Well, we’ll see.

As this isn’t really very satisfying, let’s take a look at what else there might be coming. A short time ago, The Hollywood Reporter mentioned a Prison Break spinoff. If it will ever be, it will take place at a female prison and it will be named Prison Break: Cherry Hill. According to a report at Yahoo! News a character likely will be introduced in the new season and the spinoff will focus on her. A while ago, THR ran a story about that character and about the spinoff in general. Well, we’ll see about that too.

No 24 in 2008

Due to strike complications Fox has been forced to delay the seventh season of the popular show to an unspecified date. Last week, Fox dropped the bombshell: There will be no season of 24 in 2008! Up to now, the crew has already shot eight episodes and if Fox wanted to continue production this year, there would’ve been a lengthy break between the airing of the already shot episodes and the new ones. In order to ensure that the seventh season was aired uninterrupted, Fox opted to delay the show until January 2009, one year after its originally planned run date. TV.com has the news.

Here’s the low-down on what has been confirmed for the seventh season up to now:

With CTU dismantled, the show’s setting moves to Washington, D.C..
Jack Bauer faces trial for his actions in the pursuit of justice.
Tony Almeida returns!
Chloe O’Brian and Bill Buchanan too are back.
There will be a female president.

I will eagerly await the next season of 24. Hopefully, they will use the time granted by the powers that be to be more creative than ever before. They absolutely need to produce a show that really kicks some ass. After the disappointing season 2 of Heroes I call it a good decision to wait and product some quality rather than some hastily thrown-together episodes.

Bionic, Baby!

This fall a remake of the 1970s classic Bionic Woman premieres on NBC. Michelle Ryan, who plays the Bionic Woman, obviously likes that role very much according to some reports on the web. Actually, she’s not my type but I did like the original and I hope I will like the remake, so the actor’s hotness isn’t a deciding factor here. Anyway, let’s take a look at the plot:

Jaime Wells Sommers (Ryan) is a hard-working woman working as a bartender. She is responsible for the care of her younger sister too. By and large, she lives a normal life. However, this changes when she is hit by a car and gravely injured. Her boyfriend just takes her away to a secret facility where an experimental and top secret procedure is performed on her, which results in Jaime becoming the Bionic Woman. Unfortunately, this salvation comes at a steep price.

Of course, NBC has already whipped up a site with some information on the show including some videos and images. Be sure not to miss the premiere on September 26th, 8/9c. I’m looking forward to watching the show and I really hope it’s good.

Dead Like Me rocks

That’s for sure. Well, first things first. Dead Like Me is a television comedy-drama set in Seattle. The show is about an 18-year-old girl called Georgia “George” Lass who happens to be the narrator too. She dies early in the pilot episode and leaves a whole mess behind. Although she died, she’s not dead yet because she’s destined to become a Grim Reaper. These reapers are the minions of Death and their job is to collect the souls of people who are about to die. In short, Grim Reapers are the ones who reap souls and escort them to the afterlife. The show mainly explores the lives and experiences of a small team of reapers and takes a look at the changes in Georgia’s family after her sudden death.

The team of reapers is led by Rube, who gets the list of who is to die. He assigns those unfortunates to his “squad”, by writing the first initial and last name, the location, and the estimated time of death (ETD) on a Post-it note. Then there are Mason, Roxy, and Betty who is soon replaced by Daisy. But you can check them out over at the official site. Unfortunately, there are only two seasons out there because the show was – just like FarScape – unjustly canceled. Just recently I did a search on the show and I came up with something interesting.

On April 17th, MGM announced that they embark on aggressive home entertainment production strategy meaning that they will produce lots of direct-to-DVD movies and sequels. The announcement states that there will be a movie and according to Ellen Muth all of the original cast is to return for the movie. I like the dark comedy and the twisted look it takes at life. Hopefully, they will bring the series back eventually. I’d really like to see the movie as the first step in that direction. For once, they could make my dream come true.

Sanctuary: The Recap

It almost seemed ages ago that I last wrote about Sanctuary. I have to confess, I was quite busy and, to put it frankly, I lost sight of it. Now I had some time to check on it to see if these all new webisodes are worth my time. The first four webisodes are available for free viewing at the usual sites, namely YouTube, Google Video, and similar sites.

Today, I received a mail containing interesting information on the upcoming TV show Sanctuary. For those of you who still don’t know what Sanctuary is about, here’s the synopsis. As for the mail I received, Canada’s Daily Planet recently covered Sanctuary on the Discovery Channel. The spot is six minutes long and includes interviews with Amanda Tapping and Martin Wood. In addition, we got to see the first footage from the show and a look at the video game production technology utilized to generate entire sets. Sanctuary is almost completely produced in green screen, adding hundreds of hours to post-production. This approach taps a new potential and takes the term interactive entertainment to a new level. The new show will release on the internet in May and later as a computer game. So, without further ado, here’s the clip:
